Caroline Seelig

Chief Executive, Open Polytechnic

Dr Caroline Seelig has over 25 years’ experience as a senior manager in New Zealand’s tertiary education sector. Since 2009, she has been the Chief Executive of Open Polytechnic, which is proud to be a leader in the field of open and distance learning.
Caroline has led institutional strategic and investment planning, and overseen flexible learning, teaching and delivery units, academic portfolio development, quality management and student support. She has also been involved in a wide range of successful collaborative initiatives to drive change and innovation. Caroline is a Board member of ESA Publications Ltd, Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce, LearningWorks, and New Zealand’s representative on the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) Board of Governors.

Mark Nichols

Executive Director of Learning Design & Development, Open Polytechnic

Dr Mark Nichols is Executive Director, Learning Design & Development with Open Polytechnic. He is a member of the International Council of Distance Education Board, a Principal Fellow of Higher Education, a member of several prominent journal editorial boards and has a long history of advocacy and practice of digital distance education. His recent book Transforming universities with digital distance education (Routledge) and podcast series Leaders and Legends of Online Learning follow on from his time with the Open University UK as Director of Technology Enhanced Learning. Mark is a proud Westie with a heritage in New Zealand’s vocational education sector.
